# What's the difference between an administrator and a member in PreciseMD?

> The single sidebar item that separates the two roles, why personal access tokens must come from an administrator, and the one-administrator minimum

## Short answer

The difference is whether **User management** appears in the sidebar. **Administrators** see it; **members** don't. Both roles can use the other six features.

## Details

### The sidebar difference

<table>
<thead>
  <tr>
    <th>
      Sidebar item
    </th>

    <th>
      Administrator
    </th>

    <th>
      Member
    </th>
  </tr>
</thead>

<tbody>
  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        Agent
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      ✓
    </td>

    <td>
      ✓
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        Playground
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      ✓
    </td>

    <td>
      ✓
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        OCR tasks
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      ✓
    </td>

    <td>
      ✓
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        Storage connections
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      ✓
    </td>

    <td>
      ✓
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        Model connections
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      ✓
    </td>

    <td>
      ✓
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        User management
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      ✓
    </td>

    <td>
      —
    </td>
  </tr>
</tbody>
</table>

So the day-to-day parsing work — test runs, creating and running OCR tasks, setting up storage connections, adjusting model connections — is entirely a member's to do, with no administrator needed.

### Personal access tokens must come from an administrator

Personal access tokens (PATs) live inside the **User management** page. Since members can't see that page, **a member can neither create nor view their own token**. When a member needs to connect to PreciseMD from the CLI or an AI agent, an administrator has to create the token and hand it over.

For how, see [Create a personal access token for AI agents](https://docs.ardge.com/en/knowledge/precisemd/access-tokens).

### The system keeps at least one administrator

Remove or demote the last administrator and the system replies "At least one administrator must remain" and refuses the operation.

## How to check

In the user list on the **User management** page, each user's role reads **Administrator** or **Member**. If you can't see **User management** in the sidebar at all, your role is member.
