# What to do when a system update hits the Docker Hub pull limit

> Why system updates pull from Docker Hub, what the rate limits are, and how to raise them by configuring a Docker Hub account in Control Panel

## Short answer

Configure a Docker Hub account under **Control Panel › Internet Account** to raise the pull limit from 100 per 6 hours for anonymous pulls to 200 per 6 hours for an account. If setting up an account isn't practical, wait for the counter to reset and run the update again.

## Details

### Why a system update hits the pull limit

ARX deploys its services as containers, so a system update includes updating container images — and fetching those images means pulling from Docker Hub. Once the pull count reaches Docker Hub's limit, the update can't continue.

### Docker Hub pull limits

    <th>

    </th>
  </tr>
</thead>

<tbody>
  <tr>
    <td>
      Anonymous pull
    </td>

    <td>
      Source IP
    </td>

    <td>
      100
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      Docker account (free plan)
    </td>

    <td>
      The account
    </td>

    <td>
      200
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      Docker account (paid plan)
    </td>

    <td>
      The account
    </td>

    <td>
      Unlimited
    </td>
  </tr>
</tbody>
</table>

Anonymous pulls are counted per source IP, so other devices on the same network share those 100 pulls. Pull with an account instead and the count moves to that account, out of reach of other devices.

## How to fix

Pick whichever fits your situation:

- **Configure a Docker Hub account** — moves the count from your IP to the account and raises the limit to 200 per 6 hours. Steps below
- **Upgrade your Docker plan** — paid plans have no pull limit
- **Wait for the counter to reset** — with no configuration at all, wait out the 6-hour counting window and run the update again

### Configure a Docker Hub account on ARX

1. Sign in to the ARX admin interface and open **Control Panel**
2. Go to the **Internet Account** page
3. On the **Docker Hub Auth** card, click **Configure**
4. Enter your Docker Hub username and password
5. Click save
