# What do the file source statuses mean?

> What each of the eight file source statuses means and what to do next, how Partially Complete differs from Failed, and the per-file results of each sync

## Short answer

The **Last Run** column in the **File Sources** list shows the status of each source's most recent sync. There are eight statuses. **Completed** and **Partially Complete** mean the results of that sync are ready for agents to use; **Failed** and **Stopped** mean the results of that sync are incomplete. To see the result for a single file, open the source's **Log**, then click any sync.

### What the eight statuses mean, and what to do next

      What to do
    </th>

    <td>
      The file source has been created, but no sync has run yet
    </td>

    <td>

    </td>
  </tr>

      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      The sync job stopped before it could finish processing
    </td>

    <td>
      Confirm the NAS is reachable and the account has enough permissions, then start the sync again
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        Stopped
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      The sync was stopped by hand while it was running
    </td>

    <td>
      Click the sync icon to start a sync again when you need to
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        Stopping
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      A stop command was sent and the job is wrapping up
    </td>

    <td>
      Wait for the status to change to <strong>
        Stopped
      </strong>
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        Deleting
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      A delete command was sent and the file source is being removed
    </td>

    <td>
      Wait for it to finish
    </td>
  </tr>
</tbody>
</table>

### How Partially Complete differs from Failed

The difference is whether the job itself ran to the end:

- **Failed** means the whole sync job stopped. Usually the NAS couldn't be reached, or the account didn't have enough permissions on the shared folder, so the job couldn't continue
- **Partially Complete** means the job ran all the way through, but some individual files failed at the conversion stage. All the other files processed successfully

### Can an agent use a Partially Complete source?

Yes. With **Partially Complete**, the files that processed successfully can still be retrieved by the agent, but the failed files aren't part of its knowledge.

In this case, the card of any agent that uses the source shows **File Source sync failed**, to remind you that some files still need attention.

### Per-file results

In each sync, every file has its own result:

    </th>

    <th>
      What it means

    <td>

    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        Stopped
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      The sync was stopped before this file finished processing
    </td>
  </tr>

## How to check

1. Go to the **File Sources** page and check each source's status in the **Last Run** column
2. Click a source name to open its detail page. The **Status** card at the top of the page shows the same value
3. In the detail page's file list, files that failed to convert have a failure icon. Hover over the icon to see why that file failed

To see the results of past syncs, click **Log** in the action menu at the right of the row in the **File Sources** list. The **Status** of every run is listed there. Click any run to open **File Results**, which lists each file's result and failure reason.
