# What file formats and limits does ARGENT support?

> The text, document, image and spreadsheet formats ARGENT file sources support, the 150 MB per-file cap, and the quantity limits for manual uploads

## Short answer

ARGENT file sources support four categories of formats — text, document, image and spreadsheet — with a cap of 150 MB per file. A manual upload takes up to 50 files and 50 GB in total at a time. Legacy Office formats (97–2003 DOC, XLS and PPT) aren't supported; save them in the newer formats first. To check the formats and limits in the interface, see [How to check](#how-to-check) below.

## Details

### Supported formats

The following formats apply to both ways of creating a file source, **Manual Upload** and **Select from NAS**:

<table>
<thead>
  <tr>
    <th>
      Category
    </th>

    <th>
      Extensions
    </th>
  </tr>
</thead>

<tbody>
  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        Text
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      TXT, TEXT, MD, MDX, HTML, HTM, XHTML, JSON, JSONL
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        Document
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      PDF, DOCX, PPTX
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        Image
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      PNG, JPG, JPEG, TIF, TIFF, BMP, WEBP
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      <strong>
        Spreadsheet
      </strong>
    </td>

    <td>
      XLSX, XLSM, CSV
    </td>
  </tr>
</tbody>
</table>

Legacy Office formats (97–2003) aren't supported. These files show **Legacy (97-2003) files are not supported. Save the file as and sync again.** Save them as DOCX, XLSX or PPTX in Office, then upload or sync again.

### Per-file size cap

Each file can be up to **150 MB**.

A file over the cap fails to convert, and the error message includes the file name and the maximum allowed size, for example **The file size exceeds the limit. Split the file into multiple files and upload again. Maximum allowed size for : .**

### Quantity limits for manual uploads

**Manual Upload** also has per-upload limits, shown in the **File Count:** and **Total File Size:** counters at the top right of the **Upload Files** area:

<table>
<thead>
  <tr>
    <th>
      Item
    </th>

    <th>
      Limit
    </th>
  </tr>
</thead>

<tbody>
  <tr>
    <td>
      Number of files per upload
    </td>

    <td>
      50
    </td>
  </tr>

  <tr>
    <td>
      Total size of files per upload
    </td>

    <td>
      50 GB
    </td>
  </tr>
</tbody>
</table>

Files over the limit aren't added to the upload queue. The page lists their names and shows **The following files could not be added to the upload queue due to upload restrictions:**.

## How to check

You can check the supported formats and size cap right on the create page:

1. Go to the **File Sources** page and click **Add File Sources**
2. Below **Source Type**, click the info icon to the right of the description **Up to 150 MB per file. Supports …, and more.**

A list expands, showing the supported extensions under **Text**, **Document**, **Image** and **Spreadsheet**.
