# Users and Roles

> Create user accounts, assign roles and permissions, and understand the Owner identity

## Overview

Users and Roles decides who can sign in to ARX, and what they can do once they're in.

The easiest way to think about it:

- **Owner** — the top administrator of this ARX
- **Super Admin** — can administer the system
- **Member** — uses the apps, doesn't administer anything
- **Custom role** — opens up only the features your company needs

IT staff take an administrative role; everyone else only needs to use the apps.

## Users

Create, edit and delete accounts, up to 1024. Each account holds exactly one role, **Member** by default.

<tip>

Don't let several people share one administrative account. Separate accounts are what let [Log Center](https://docs.ardge.com/en/guide/monitor-and-troubleshoot/log-center) record who did what.

</tip>

## Roles

**Super Admin** (full system administration) and **Member** (applications only, no administration) are built in and can't be changed.

If your company needs finer permissions, add your own roles and set the permission on each subsystem individually.

<note>

Changing a role's permissions signs out everyone holding that role. They pick up the new permissions at their next sign-in.

</note>

## What is the Owner?

The account created during initialization carries the **Owner** tag. There's one per device, it's always a Super Admin, it can't be edited or deleted, and it's the only account that can sign in over SSH.

Transfer it to another Super Admin from this page.
